Delivering smiles by going that extra mile - our COVID warriors who fought against all odds

“When the going gets tough, the tough gets going”, a famous adage that makes more sense now than even before! While each of us has our own unique stories to tell from the lockdown, we present to you experiences of our very own frontline heroes, who lived up to Transasia’s vision of a Healthier India!

This is not a narrative from a Bollywood movie, of an actor fighting all odds to win over his love, or a sci-fi flick of a superhero saving the world from ETs. These are true experiences of grit and determination, of working with your heart, to give it all you have for a healthier nation!

While the COVID pandemic and ensuing lockdown left most with no choice but to work from home, there were some for whom it did not matter whether an area was declared a containment zone or a hotspot. What mattered for these great heroes was that they are the face of India’s leading In-vitro Diagnostic Company, and providers of essential diagnostic services.

So, while India came to a standstill, it was companies like Transasia that kept our production and services running, albeit with limited resources. We walked hand-in-hand with laboratories and hospitals to ensure that our essential diagnostic equipment lived up to their reputation of providing accurate and timely diagnosis!

And at the heart of it all, are our bravehearts, our service engineers, who continue to work tirelessly so that customers are assured of seamless services during the COVID pandemic. We present to you some inspiring stories:

A salute to one frontliner from another

The start of the lockdown saw most inter-district borders sealed. It was business as usual for Arun Sharma, our Area Service Manager from Himachal Pradesh, until he received a call from a hospital coverted to a dedicated COVID-19 centre, in the Palampur district. The hospital was facing some issues with EM 200, our fully automated clinical chemistry analyzer, that was being used to evaluate important parameters in a COVID sample. Though the issues were minor, the hospital relied on Transasia to ensure uninterrupted functioning.

Within no time of receiving the call, Arun was on his way. However, strict vigilance by the police personnel deterred him from entering another district. A persistent Arun didn’t give up and managed to convince the senior officials on the crucial task at hand. The result, applauds and appreciation from the men at guard. However the journey had just begun! Arun travelled close to two hundred kilometers to reach the hospital in Palampur and provide his expertise.

The will to serve

RML Hospital in Delhi and Kasturba Hospital in Mumbai have been the hotspots right from the beginning of the disease spread in India. As the number of cases continued to peak at both these centres, our two good men Ankit Bhardwaj, from Delhi and Sandeep Andhale from Mumbai, ensured that our instruments kept functioning seamlessly to meet the high testing demands.

Distance doesn't matter

With the first case in India being detected in Kerala, the state health machinery was immediately put into action! All government hospitals under the Kerala Medical Service Corporation Ltd. were working overtime, testing 600-700 samples per day.

Sajin Nair
Regional Service Manager
Kochi

Our Regional Service Manager, Sajin Nair, based in Kochi, took it on himself to provide technical assistance to government institutes in the interiors of Trivandrum and the nearby areas. Traveling almost 12-14 hrs a day, sometimes without food, to attend to four to five distress calls, Sajin proved that he is no less than a Saviour!

Reaching the heartland

Supratim Panda
Service Engineer
Bhubaneshwar

Our service engineer, Supratim Panda, from Bhubaneshwar has raised the bar with his levels of commitment. A single call from a remote district hospital prompted Supratim to travel 3-4 hrs to and fro on his two wheeler followed by an overnight journey in a transport vehicle delivering essential medical goods. And all this to ensure that there are no last mile disruptions.

We are proud of you Sajin and Supratim for living Transasia’s mission of reaching   the heartland of India.

Woman power

Kiruthika M.R.
Service Engineer
Chennai

Our only lady service engineer from Chennai, Kiruthika MR, has  been busy serving the labs in the COVID hospitals. Kiruthika has   been serving  various district hospitals associated with the Tamil   Nadu Medical  Services  Corporation Ltd. (TNMSC). During the lockdown, one of   these hospitals  reported  an increasing caseload. As a result of which, it was decided   to shift around  8-10  instruments from another hospital to cater to the growing   demand. This would  mean spending a lot of time in the COVID hospital while   installing and setting up  the systems. Kiruthika had no second thoughts on going   about her duty. She made  sure that all instruments were installed and up and       running  in record time.

Going beyond

All through the last three months, our teams have been busy exploring every possible way in which we can join this fight against the pandemic. While our service teams have been ensuring uninterrupted service, our R&D and manufacturing teams have been working towards designing and developing an ELISA test kit for COVID-19 detection.

Amrut Kulkarni
Sr. Service Engineer
Pune

Some key contributors deserve a special mention. Meet Amrut Kulkarni our service engineer and Atul Tamahane, our Sr. Regional Service Manager from Pune. BJ Medical College (also known as Sassoon Hospital) in Pune has been designated as a COVID centre and witnesses a huge influx of patients each day. In order to meet the growing demand, the hospital which already has three Erba clinical chemistry analyzers, decided to install one more. In stepped Amrut and Atul and the fourth instrument too was functional in no need. And it didn’t end at that. In order to validate the performance of our   COVID testing kits, our R&D team needed some COVID positive samples. Both Amrut and Atul, volunteered to handle the samples from the hospital and get them delivered at our Mumbai office for validation studies. And today, we are proud to have introduced the COVID-19 IgG ELISA kits which have been approved by ICMR and NIV and are playing a crucial role in mass screening.

While these are just few examples, all our 350 service frontline warriors, have in totality attended to close to 30,000 Doctors and lab technicians, to ensure uninterrupted services in these critical months.

Every employee of Transasia remains committed to ATMANIRBHAR, Healthy India! This is what makes us India’s No. 1 In-vitro Diagnostic Company!
